Selection, packing, loading... The overwintering fruit storehouse owned by Liao Shuichang, a fruit grower of Chetou Town of Anyuan County, was extraordinarily bustling on April 6. The workers were busy packing navel oranges for external selling. All the large navel orange storehouses of Anyuan County are humming with activity in recent days. Dozens of tons of navel oranges are sent to all parts of the country every day.
Anyuan County actively orientates fruit growers towards building overwintering fruit storehouse in villages rich in water resources with no pollution so as to further extend the navel orange sales period and improve economic efficiency. This kind of overwintering fruit storehouse has two rows of ventilation windows and it is roofed in tiles. Making use of indoor - outdoor temperature difference and air change, the storehouse keeps at relatively low temperatures so that the navel oranges can be stored until the following year in May for marketing. Due to staggering the market peak period, the price of overwintering navel oranges is doubled than they just come onto the market and the fruits enjoy high favor among merchants from Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing and other places. There are more than 400 fruit growers who have built their own overwintering fruit storehouses with a total area of over 200,000 square meters and a storage capacity of 120,000 tons, which can increase income of nearly 240,000 yuan. Currently, 80 percent or more of the overwintering navel oranges have been sold in Anyuan County.
